It is recommended that you read about serotonin tryptophan and natural antidepressants before using any pharmaceutical antidepressants.

Prozac

History of Prozac: Prozac is a drug that was released by the Eli Lilly corporation in 1987 aimed at fighting depression which currently makes over $1 billion annually. Prozac is a member of the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor family, which synthetically attempts to reduce depression by blocking the exit path of serotonin from the synapse. Studies have shown these drugs are typically found effective in 60 - 80% of those who try Prozac, which is similar to that of St Johns Wort.

How does Prozac work? Like other SSRIs, Prozac can take nearly a month to take full effect. Serotonin slowly builds up in the synapses as it is created and its outlets are synthetically blocked off (at least partially) from the brain cells. Using natural antidepressants such as 5HTP can cause noticeable change on a quicker timeline at a far cheaper price. Another benefit of using natural antidepressants is that they lack many of the side effects synthetic drugs like Prozac offer.

Prozac caution: Although each SSRI manufacture admit they do not know how their respective drugs work, each claim that they help to correct a “chemical imbalance of the brain.” SSRIs prescribed in the wrong dose can cause severe imbalances.

A study noted in a book by Hyla Class MD noted that 17% of those who try prozac are forced to quit due to severe side effects such as:
                  drop in Libido (34%)
                  nausea (21%)
                  headaches (20%)
                  anxiety and nervousness (15%)
                  insomnia (14%)
                  drowsiness (12%)
                  diarrhea (12%)
                  dry mouth (9%)
                  sweating and tremors (8%)
                  rashes (3%)

Hyla also stated that she thought these numbers were abnormally low due to environmental and test factors such as the length of test time (4 - 6 weeks)

Eli Lilly and the law: If you look closely through the National Security Act you will see they pened in a last second addition to the bill to prevent Eli Lilly from being sued on some of the charges that were being brought up on it. view Prozac Feedback
