Depression

Me and depression: I could write volumes on depression, and you probably would not care to read them. Like a boring doctor I could do a thousand case studies and then offer a solution. You and I both know that would just not work though. I will give a small formal background into depression though, from my experiences, and my thoughts on overcoming depression.

The cause of depression: At the root of depression we usually find under or over developed emotions attached to a specific life instance or series of events. The end result of depression is a loss of will to live and a loss of care for life. Those who are extremely depressed frequently have grow disconnected from the world around them, feel life is redundant and pointless, and do not think clearly.

Many people are chemically imbalanced, and from my rehab treatment I noticed that many of those around me were abused at a young age. Inadequate early childhood development frequently leads to underdeveloped emotions, unreasonable value systems, or false ideals.

How to cope with depression: The best way to cope with depression is the only way, and it is not the same for everyone. I find exercising naturally stimulates me and makes me forget the horrid thoughts that frequently consume my mind. If you do not understand how the mind works, consider my quick one page tutorial.

Neurochemistry and depression: Essentially for one reason or another there is a relative shift in neurochemistry associated with depression. You can play the chicken vs the egg game to decide the problem, but the base of any effective treatment is to acknowledge a problem, and have hope in a cure. You will never be helped if you do not want to be helped. What I find to help me cure depression is unique as it is with you. The most important thing to do is to become actively engaged in the world around you and try a variety of things until you find what you are looking for.

Drugs and depression: Sometimes though we do need a little help, and there are prescription antidepressants which are aimed at helping to cure these problems. I am not a doctor but I do not recommend using these drugs, I do however recommend using natural alternative antidepressants to help you.

Environment and depession: There are also many varieties of depression with many sources. Environmental impacts are frequently far greater than many people imagine. There is even a type of depression which is seasonally related called Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Smoking and depression: Links to depression and cultural action are far reaching. A disproportionately large percentage of psychiatric patients smoke. Why frequently does smoking tie in with depression?
